Amazon kindly decided to start charging sales tax in the sate of Idaho. No law requiring them to do this, they just decided out of the goodness of their heart after a discussion with the government in bed, that they would start charging sales tax. It is like they are kindly doing all the dirty work for the thugs. Of course small businesses in Idaho rejoice, but why not eliminate the sales tax instead of manipulate others to participate in theft?
Luke 20:22, Jesus Christ was asked by spies trying to trick him, “Is is right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” After asking for a denarius and getting the spies to say that Caesar’s image was on the denarius He answered in Luke 20:25, “Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and God what is God’s.” (Bible quotations from the NIV.)
That sure sounds like Jesus Christ wouldn’t have any problems with Amazon making it easier for the citizens of Idaho obeying the law to pay sales tax on online purchases from Amazon. They don’t collect sales taxes from purchases in my state, Ohio, but it would be a good idea if they did. Our state legislators decide the state sales tax rate, but voters in individual cities and counties can add to the state sales tax. Voters have total control over this additional amount, which is kept in our local communities. Each level of government plans budgets based on anticipated revenue; ripping off the government by not paying taxes on online purchase hurts our neighbors, at least in Ohio cities and counties.
Frankly, you should be ashamed to call yourself Christians if you try to avoid paying sales tax. Work through the legal system to get your sales taxes reduced or eliminate if you wish, of course, but willfully breaking the law is never right for a Christian. I’m not a Holy Jane, believe me, and have my own blind spots, for sure. Not that there’s any wrong with using every legal means to reduce your tax obligations, of course.
