Resisting Evolutionary Theory is becoming more and more unpopular in evangelical circles. It isn’t considered respectable, or in any way intelligent, to maintain Creationism at all costs. Fighting the culture wars has been exhausting, and why shouldn’t we put our efforts into the new issues, like transgender bathrooms, and give the evolution fight up as a lost cause. However, this thinking misses the major point: Evolution is the enemy. Evolution is the arch-villain whose works include abortion, global warming, and homosexuality. Those are vital issues, but they are fruits on the philosophical tree of descent that can be traced to Darwin. Natural Selection is the social engineering of Thomas Malthus applied to all organic life. If we try to knock down fruit while leaving the tree intact all our efforts will be in vain.
In 1798, the Anglican cleric Thomas Malthus published An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus argued that a continual growth in population would lead to a scarcity of resources, resulting in famine and death. He argued that the, “power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man.” He believed that the desire to increase population, “increases the number of people before the means of subsistence are increased…The poor consequently must live much worse, and many of them be reduced to severe distress.” Malthus was a clergyman and did not advocate for abortion or birth control; however, his arguments grabbed society’s imagination, especially the notion that poverty was a sign of overpopulation. In A Christmas Carol, when confronted with the deaths of those in poverty, Ebenezer Scrooge quotes Malthus by saying, “then they had better do it and decrease the surplus population!”
Darwin reiterates this view in Origin of the Species when describing Natural Selection. He says that his theory is, “the doctrine of Malthus applied with manifold force to the whole animal and vegetable kingdoms.” After describing the struggle and eventual death of untold numbers of organisms that are unfit for survival Darwin states, “When we reflect on this struggle, we may console ourselves with the full belief, that the war of nature is not incessant, that no fear is felt, that death is generally prompt, and that the vigorous, the healthy, and the happy survive and multiply.” Sentiments that could just have easily been printed on promotional material for the local Planned Parenthood.
In fact, Planned Parenthood was founded on this notion. Its founder, Margaret Sanger once said, “The creators of over-population are the women, who, while wringing their hands over each fresh horror, submit anew to their task of producing the multitudes who will bring about the next tragedy of civilization.” Abortion gets its justification from evolutionary theory.
Al Gore, who is largely responsible for politicizing global warming through his role in the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth, holds similar assumptions. An ordained minister, Al Gore has never enthusiastically endorsed Evolutionary Theory, but he operates with its assumptions. He once stated, “It took 10,000 human lifetimes for the population to reach 2 billion. Now in the course of one lifetime, yours and mine, it is rocketing from 2 billion to 10 billion, and is already halfway there.” The problem of rising greenhouse gas emissions is, at root, a fear based on controlling Natural Selection.
In addition, the homosexual agenda offers an opportunity to fix that problem. Some argue that homosexuality actually offers the best option for population control, one without abortion or one-child policies. Natural population control occurs when a society encourages and promotes homosexual behavior. More recent arguments claim that homosexual friends and relatives have an evolutionary role in aiding parents with child-rearing, thus increasing the chances of a species’ survival.
At its root, evolution works to destroy God’s image. Any attempt to reconcile evolutionary belief with a Creator will do nothing more than continue the destruction. Instead of feeble attempts to knock fruit down off the evolutionary tree, it’s time to lay the axe at the root and begin chopping.
